THE SHORT VERSION
Seasonal storage is useful only when belongings are easy to find at the right time. Treat the unit as a rotating cupboard with a simple map, rather than a place where out-of-season items disappear behind unlabelled boxes.
PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
Group belongings by season and use clear labels on at least two sides of every container. Clean and dry sports equipment, outdoor textiles and garden items before packing. Keep decorations in rigid boxes with fragile pieces separated, and remove batteries from lights or devices. Place the next season’s items nearest the entrance and move the current season towards the back during each visit. A narrow aisle and a shelf plan make a small unit far more usable. Photograph each shelf after reorganising it and keep the images with a brief inventory on your phone.

BEFORE YOU MOVE IN
Review the unit during every seasonal change. Donate or recycle what no longer serves you, then adjust the unit size if the remaining belongings can fit comfortably into less space.
