THE SHORT VERSION
A short storage period can remove the pressure when completion dates do not line up, decorating runs late or a new home is smaller than expected. The useful part is not simply having extra space; it is deciding what goes there and what must travel with you.
PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
Pack one clearly marked essentials group for the first week: bedding, basic cookware, toiletries, work equipment, school items, chargers and a small toolkit. Everything else can be labelled by room and priority. Move low-priority furniture and sealed boxes into storage before the main moving day if possible. Build a simple aisle inside the unit and place anything needed for the next stage near the entrance. Keep documents, medication, keys, jewellery, food and temperature-sensitive belongings with you. If removers are involved, share the facility access hours and loading instructions in advance so the route is clear.

BEFORE YOU MOVE IN
A flexible rental period lets you unpack the new home in a sensible order. Empty the unit room by room rather than bringing every box back at once, and reduce the unit size if only a few items remain.
