The gap between two tenancies is often shorter than the journey home, but long enough to make luggage and furniture difficult to manage. A compact unit can hold the items you do not need during the break without turning travel into a removal job.
PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
Make a list before choosing a size. Boxes, suitcases, a bicycle, a desk chair and kitchen equipment often fit into a small unit when packed carefully. Wash and fully dry bedding and clothes, empty and clean appliances, and remove batteries from small electronics. Label every box and keep important course materials or equipment near the front. Do not store food, plants, liquids or anything prohibited by the facility. If friends are sharing a unit, agree who holds the key, how costs are divided and how each person’s belongings are labelled.
BEFORE YOU MOVE IN
Book around the tenancy dates rather than the academic calendar, and check office opening times for move-in. A quick visit before booking can prevent paying for more space than a student move really needs.
